What the competitor comparison shows
Below the result of your own website's check, you enter up to two competitor websites. WebMeter checks them the same way as your website and shows the results side by side:
- the overall score from 0 to 100 for each website,
- the scores of individual areas, such as security, email, speed or SEO, on the same scale,
- up to three areas in which the best of your competitors is ahead of you by at least 15 points,
- separately, the informational areas that don't count towards the score.
Each competitor website also gets its own report with detailed findings.
Why compare with your competitors
A score on its own says little. Whether 70 points is a good result depends on where the companies your customers choose between stand. The comparison shows whether a weak spot is yours alone or the whole industry's, and where you have an edge that is worth keeping.
Customers don't see the points, though, but what lies behind them: a website that loads slowly on mobile, a browser warning about an expired certificate or a quote that ends up in spam because the domain has no SPF and DMARC set up.
How the comparison works
You pick the competitor websites; WebMeter does not suggest any. You enter them after checking your own website, which is not checked again for the comparison. Each competitor website goes through the same passive check as yours: public data only, respecting robots.txt and with a limited number of requests. If a website cannot be checked, you will see the reason right next to it and the other websites are compared anyway.
What the comparison does not show
The comparison works only with the scores of the areas WebMeter measured on your website. It does not compare prices, offers, content, traffic or search rankings, and it does not say which website customers prefer. It is shown only on the website below your result, not in the report or the PDF.
As with your own website, this is not a security audit: a good competitor score does not mean their website has no weaknesses.
