What an SEO check is

SEO means preparing a website so that search engines can find it, understand it correctly and show it to people looking for what you offer. An SEO check (SEO analysis, SEO audit, SEO site checker) shows whether the website stands in the way of search engines and whether it gives them good material: titles, descriptions, headings, structured data or a sitemap.

WebMeter is an automatic, passive audit. It reads only public data, the way a search engine does, and changes nothing on your website. It is not a manual review by a consultant.

Six pillars that make up the SEO score

The SEO area has a score of 0–100 made up of six pillars:

  • Indexing (25 points): the home page has no ban on indexing (noindex), robots.txt doesn’t block the home page for Googlebot or SeznamBot and answers without a server error, and the canonical link points to your own domain.
  • Titles and descriptions (25 points): pages have a title and a description (meta description), and each page has a different one.
  • Content and structure (15 points): an H1 heading, at least 150 words of text without JavaScript, headings without gaps, image descriptions (alt), clear links and the main words in the title and heading.
  • Structured data (15 points): schema.org data about the business (Organization or LocalBusiness) and the website (WebSite) without syntax errors.
  • Sharing (10 points): Open Graph tags, which decide how a link preview looks on social networks and in messengers, and a favicon.
  • Technical setup (10 points): a sitemap.xml (a small website doesn’t strictly need one) and its link in robots.txt, a viewport for mobile devices, the page language (lang) and hreflang on language versions.

When a website is kept out of search

First WebMeter checks whether the website can appear in search at all. If the home page forbids indexing, the SEO score does not exceed 20 points: there is no point tuning titles and descriptions while the site is closed to search engines. The score is also capped when half of the assessed pages lack titles and descriptions or repeat them (at most 59 points), or when only one of the two is the problem (at most 74 points). These caps apply to websites where WebMeter assessed at least three content pages, and the reason is shown in the report.

Subpages, hreflang and robots.txt

Besides the home page, WebMeter fetches a small sample of up to five subpages that the home page links to and looks for missing or repeated titles, descriptions and H1 headings. For websites in several languages it checks hreflang, that is, whether the language versions link to each other. It evaluates robots.txt by the rules for individual search robots. It doesn’t go through the other subpages: the result is a sample, not a full walk through the website.

Seznam, Bing and AI search

Besides the SEO score, the report shows two informational areas that don’t count towards the overall score. Search engines other than Google: whether SeznamBot, bingbot and other robots may visit the home page, whether the website has noindex for only some of them, whether the sitemap is valid and its addresses point to working pages. AI search: whether robots from OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity may enter the website, whether the content is visible without JavaScript and whether the website has structured data about the business. WebMeter doesn’t find out whether AI recommends you.

What about PageRank?

PageRank is Google’s original way of rating pages by the links that point to them. Google has not shown its public values since 2016, so it can’t be found out from outside, and figures from third-party tools are only estimates. WebMeter neither measures nor estimates PageRank. It measures the factors your website can influence itself: whether search engines can find it, read it and show it correctly.

What the SEO check does not show

WebMeter doesn’t measure rankings for particular words, traffic, backlinks or the quality of your texts. Nor does it show how your website performs in search against competitors; to compare area scores, use the competitor comparison. A good SEO score is a check of technical basics, not a guarantee of a position in search.

FAQ on the SEO check

Is WebMeter’s SEO check really free and ad-free?

Yes. The check and the report are free, with no sign-up and no ads. The number of checks from one IP address is limited; the details are in the terms of use.

How long does the SEO check take?

About a minute. When many checks are running at once, the result is delayed and the page shows an estimated wait.

Is this the same as an SEO audit by a consultant?

No. WebMeter is an automatic, passive audit: it reads the website’s public data and evaluates the technical basics of SEO. It doesn’t judge the quality of texts, the choice of keywords or backlinks; that needs a manual review.

Does WebMeter measure PageRank?

No. Google has not shown public PageRank values since 2016. WebMeter measures what your website can influence itself: indexing, titles and descriptions, content, structured data, sharing and technical setup.

Will fixing the findings guarantee a higher position in search?

No, a position can’t be guaranteed. Removing technical obstacles does make it easier for search engines to find and understand the website. The position then also depends on content, competition and links from other websites.
