How to opt a website out of analysis
Two ways: an email to the operator, or an entry in your website's robots.txt.
1. By email
Write to kontakt@webmeter.eu and state the domain, ideally from an address on that domain or from an address given on the website; otherwise we will ask you for a simple verification (for example a DNS record). We then add the domain to the exclusion list: the tool does not analyse it and sends no request to the website. On request we also delete the stored results; they disappear from the encrypted backups within about 5 weeks. www.example.com and example.com are treated as one domain, and the exclusion also applies to all subdomains. We keep the exclusion record (domain, reason and date) permanently, otherwise the exclusion could not be honoured.
2. With an entry in robots.txt
Add the following to the robots.txt file in the root of your website (https://your-domain.com/robots.txt):
User-agent: WebMeterBot Disallow: /
Before each analysis the tool downloads only robots.txt. If it disallows the home page for WebMeterBot or for all robots (User-agent: * with Disallow: /), the analysis does not run and no further request is sent to the website. Disallowing only part of the website (for example Disallow: /admin) does not stop the analysis; the disallowed paths are simply not read. The browser does, however, load the images, scripts and other resources the home page downloads itself. If robots.txt cannot be loaded (server error, overload or network outage), the check does not run. A block in robots.txt does not delete data that is already stored; to have it deleted, send us an e-mail.
What is stored and for how long is described in the privacy policy.
